Artefact donation
National Museums Scotland cares for over 12.4 million artefacts built up over more than two centuries and they continue to welcome and value offers of donations.
To enable National Museums Scotland to assess an artefact's suitability for the national collection, certain information is required. The National Museums Scotland Collecting Strategy webpage contains all further instructions and guidance specifying the requirements behind artefact donation.
Artefacts from American donors may be eligible for favourable tax treatment within the United States. If this is of interest, please include this on your Object Donation Form and National Museums Scotland will provide you with further details.
Stock donation
The American Foundation is able to accept gifts of stock in support for National Museums Scotland.

The American Foundation for National Museums Scotland (AFNMS) is a publicly supported, tax-exempt organization under section 501 (c) (3) of the United States Internal Revenue code and is eligible to receive tax deductible charitable contributions within the limits prescribed by law. Please note, that in conformance with IRS guidelines, the American Foundation for National Museums Scotland does not accept contributions that are earmarked or required to be distributed to National Museums Scotland or any other organization. The Directors of the AFNMS have complete discretion and control over the ultimate disposition of any contributions received by the organization. While donors may suggest that their gifts be used for a specific purpose, these requests are non-binding on the AFNMS. This ensures that gifts made to the AFNMS are tax-deductible and that the AFNMS fulfills its duties and obligations as a U.S. tax-exempt organization under section 501(c) (3) of the Code. Donors may make unrestricted contributions to the AFNMS, and in these cases, the Directors will determine the manner in which contributed funds will be used.
